Fort Henry Animal Hospital is very proud to introduce Kayla Swanay DVM, the newest addition to our talented and caring veterinary team.

Dr. Kayla earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Nevada, Reno before moving to the East Coast to pursue her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at Auburn University, graduating in 2015. Since then, she has been proud to serve the Tri-Cities communities, developing special interests in soft-tissue surgery, dentistry, and preventive medicine.

In her spare time, she is a volunteer puppy raiser for the Guide Dog Foundation. She helps future service dogs gain fundamental skills and experiences that will allow them to change someone else’s life for the better. She also enjoys rescue and hospice care, and usually has at least one senior/rescue pet in her home at any given time. She spends quiet days on her farm with her dogs, cats, miniature pig, ball python snakes, as well as her horses. She is a fan of true crime, traveling, cross stitching, performance arts, outdoor adventures and reading.

Dr. Kayla Swanay understands the important role pets play within the family and is dedicated to helping them live long, healthy, and happy lives. Clients are encouraged to make an appointment for their beloved canine or feline companions so that Dr. Kayla can work with them to develop a personalized plan that ensures each pet receives the best care possible. Please join us in welcoming her to the Fort Henry Family.

Pet Physical Exams & Preventative Health in Kingsport, TN

At Fort Henry Animal Hospital in Kingsport, TN, one of the most crucial ways we maintain your pet’s well-being is through regular physical exams and preventative health care. Our team is dedicated to providing comprehensive care that ensures your furry friends lead long, healthy lives.

Pet Physical Exams & Preventative Health

  • Pets should be evaluated with a complete physical exam twice a year.
  • For seniors, pets with chronic health issues, or those on long-term medications, physicals are recommended at least two to three times per year.
  • Pets age at a faster rate than humans; therefore, their health can undergo significant changes in a shorter period of time.
  • Regular physical exams can provide valuable information leading to the diagnosis of a wide variety of health problems or diseases which are better managed when caught early!

Benefits of Preventative Health Care

Preventative health care goes hand-in-hand with regular physical exams. By focusing on prevention, we can help avoid serious health issues before they arise. This includes vaccinations, parasite control, dental care, and nutritional counseling. Preventative measures ensure that your pet stays protected against common diseases and maintains a healthy lifestyle.

When to Schedule a Physical Exam

It is recommended to schedule a physical exam for your pet at least once a year. However, for senior pets or those with existing health conditions, more frequent visits may be necessary. Puppies and kittens also benefit from regular check-ups to monitor their growth and development. Early detection of health issues through regular exams can make a significant difference in the treatment and management of various conditions.

At Fort Henry Animal Hospital in Kingsport, TN, we are committed to the health and well-being of your pets. Our dedicated team provides thorough physical exams and preventative health care to ensure your furry family members receive the best care possible.
